Ever since the world's first webcam featuring "The
"Trojan Room Coffee Machine" (switched off 8/22/2001) took
the Internet by storm, numerous webcams have appeared across the
globe. Lake Tahoe is no exception. Today, most of the major ski
resorts feature webcams on their websites.
This did not occur without some controversy. Some believed
delivering live pictures of our famous white-out snow storms
would discourage the general public from visiting. Some ski
resorts were known to shut down their cams in order to preserve
the image of year round sunshine. While there
are many "fair-weather skiers", there are also a number of
skiers who know that the best powder may be had during a snow
storm. Webcams both wetted the appetite and allowed for powder
hounds from out of the area, to better plan their trips.
Our Lake Tahoe Webcam
Gossamer's webcam is located at
our home office at the River Run Condominiums and faces southeast toward
Bell's Landing. During the summer months, Bells Landing is the end
destination point for rafting on the Truckee River. The historic
River
Ranch Lodge is usually pictured on the left.
We normally operate
our webcam during the late morning or early afternoon, whenever the
lighting towards the SE is favorable.
If the webcam image fails to load, please refresh your screen.
